This includes the almost 30000 years old Venus of Willendorf. Also extinct more than 200 years ago Steler's manatee is shown in the Natural History Museum. Facts about the Natural History Museum

The Natural History Museum in Vienna was opened on August 10, 1889. Every year there are more than 600,000 visitors. Around the year 1750, Emperor Francis I Stephen of Lorraine, the husband of the Austrian monarch Maria Theresa, bought the then largest collection of natural exhibits from Johann Ritter von Baillou.

Accessibility of the Natural History Museum

You can visit the Natural History Musuem with public transport in Vienna. You can use the subway lines U2 and U3 with the station "Volkstheater". With the tram lines 1, 2, 46, 49, 71 and D you can also drive to the Natural History Museum. There are also parking garages nearby. A special accessibility entry for wheelchair drivers to the Natural History Museum is possible at Burgring 7. Wheelchairs can be hired, a reservation is not required.
