The platform was founded in 2004. The platform was developed by the agency echonet communication GmbH. Partners for the initial development were the large infrastructure companies and public bodies that are still listed as partners on this website.
The platform was given its first major boost at the time when Wiener Linien was acquired as a partner. Among other things, Wiener Linien's advertisements and communications helped to place the RegioTours motifs in the subways of Wiener Linien (see photo).
